Turris Omnia NG: a new generation of the secure router by CZ.NIC was presented at LinuxDays 2025
Turris Omnia NG builds on the security, reliability, stability, and modularity of the previous Turris Omnia model. Compared to the previous generation, it offers significantly more powerful hardware, which will ensure long device life and continued technological relevance for users in the future.
On Saturday, the new Turris Omnia NG router was unveiled to the public at the LinuxDays 2025 community meeting. The router is the latest piece of hardware from CZ.NIC, the Czech national domain administrator. Interested parties were also informed that the launch date will be announced later at https://www.turris.cz or via newsletter. The recommended price of Turris Omnia NG will be CZK 12,705 including tax.
Turris Omnia NG builds on the security, reliability, stability, and modularity of the previous Turris Omnia model. Compared to the previous generation, it offers significantly more powerful hardware, which will ensure long device life and continued technological relevance for users in the future.
“An important driver for the development of the Turris project was the need to take the router’s performance to a new level. By using state-of-the-art components, we have moved towards a device that meets the current and future demands placed on a modern router that can be used in both households and small businesses,” said Michal Hrušecký, head of the hardware department at CZ.NIC.
Performance and expandability
The quad-core processor and the latest wireless standard, Wi-Fi 7, enable network speeds of up to 10 Gbps and fast VPN connections. A key advantage of the new router is its modular Wi-Fi solution, which is not permanently installed but comes in the form of a card in an M.2 slot. This allows users to replace the wireless card in order to adapt the device to the latest technical standards. Additional expandability is provided by additional empty M.2 slots and USB 3.0 ports. The new Turris Omnia NG is equipped with a color display, which offers a wide range of uses thanks to its open system. The user interface is intuitive and clear, containing not only basic but also advanced functions that are easily accessible. Although the router offers high performance, it uses purely passive cooling, which keeps it quiet even during heavy use.
Security and long-term support
Turris Omnia NG continues the tradition of security features from previous generations. It offers a unique security system that does not rely on manual installation of updates by the user. The device includes the Turris Sentinel adaptive firewall, which carries out thousands of updates daily and evaluates threats in real time across the entire Turris ecosystem deployed worldwide. The router thus actively protects the user’s network and can adapt to its current state.
“Thanks to long-term software support, Turris devices remain technologically relevant for many years. The oldest Turris routers are still receiving updates—these are devices that are over ten years old, yet they are still up to date in terms of software. One of our goals in this project is long-term sustainability, which is key for us,” added Michal Hrušecký.
The Turris project was originally a research activity of the CZ.NIC Association focused on network security. Thanks to two very successful crowdfunding campaigns on the Indiegogo platform, this project first yielded the Turris Omnia router (2016) and then the modular Turris MOX (2018). Both campaigns are still among the five most successful Czech crowdfunding campaigns ever. Now, Turris Omnia NG is joining this family of modern routers. Also in this case, it is an open source device manufactured in the Czech Republic.
