What has brought conference Internet and Technology 08

The first conference Internet and Technology 08 which has been organized by the association CZ.NIC has brought interesting presentation and panel discussions

Prague, 20 May – The CZ.NIC association organized the conference Internet & Technology 08 on 20 May. Current Internet-related trends and issues were covered by a number of guests from the Czech Republic and abroad. All presentations are freely available at http://www.nic.cz/it08.

Three presentations dealing with the topic of IDN – diacritics in domain names – attracted the greatest attention. Baher Esmat from ICANN referred on IDN from the more global perspective (in which countries this technology is operational, where the operation is being tested etc.) while Krzysztof Olesik from the Polish organization NASK presented specific experience with IDN in Poland, where this technology was implemented in 2003. Possible issues bound to enabling IDN in the Czech region were the key topic of the speech of Martin Peterka from CZ.NIC.

IPv6 was the topic of the presentation of Pavel Satrapa from the Technical University in Liberec. In addition to some purely technical information, his speech offered an interesting overview of the trend of the IPv4 address space depletion prognoses in the last 15 years.

The question whether the current Internet meets the existing requirements was covered in the presentation of Jiří Peterka. His speech also introduced the current vision of the “future Internet”. However, the conclusion was dedicated to the past – Jiří Peterka showed how the Czech Internet worked in 1994.

There were some boundary Internet topics presented as well. Sociological statistic data was offered in the presentation of Jana Sládek on the Digital Divide phenomenon in Czech Republic and the presentation of Irena Wintrová on the Czech Internet population.
