The CZ.NIC Association has released the 2023 Domain Report

At the end of last year, there were 1,468,788 domains ending with .CZ. In 2023, an average of 16,618 domains were registered each month, with the highest number of registrations in March (21,466) and the lowest, traditionally, in the summer (July, 13,001).

CZ.NIC, the Czech national domain administrator, has published the 2023 Domain Report. The summary offers key statistical facts about the state and development of the .CZ zone, which is primarily used by entities in the Czech Republic (90.33%). At the end of last year, there were 1,468,788 domains ending with .CZ. In 2023, an average of 16,618 domains were registered each month, with the highest number of registrations in March (21,466) and the lowest, traditionally, in the summer (July, 13,001).

We can see a curious trend in the form of growing number of domains per 100 inhabitants in the South Moravian (13.8%) and Central Bohemian (10.36%) regions. In Prague, on the other hand, there was an unusual decrease of 2.4% to a total of 31.65%, which may be due to the verification of domain holders’ addresses.

The current percentage of domains secured by DNSSEC is 57.3%. The CZ.NIC Association continues to support domain administrators in automatic management of DNSSEC keys to increase their security. In the technological area, the report highlights the reduction of the number of DNS servers for the .CZ zone to 74, which was achieved thanks to the implementation of XDP technology, which increases the performance of the servers.

The report also reveals changes in the geographical distribution of domain holders. While the previous increase in domains with holders from the USA has slowed down, we saw a significant decrease in the number of domains with Chinese (from 11,923 to 7,350) and Italian holders (from 5,612 to 2,945). Nevertheless, the majority of .CZ domain holders’ addresses remain in Western Europe and the USA, while in 2023 there were new domain holders from some exotic countries, such as Benin, Kyrgyzstan and Laos.

Domain Report 2023 is available on the CZ.NIC website along with detailed information on DNS traffic, server software used, web content and domain geography. Further information and statistics can be found at https://stats.nic.cz/.
