The CZ.NIC association, the Czech national domain administrator, has published the 2022 Domain Report. The data shows that last year the number of domains with the .CZ extension increased to 1.46 million, which means a year-on-year increase of 2.7 percent. The growing trend of the previous two years was thus confirmed, which may reflect the continuing unsettled situation in Europe and, by extension, in the world (COVID, the energy crisis, the war in Ukraine). The detailed statistical overview provides a comprehensive report on the status of the Czech national domain – DNS traffic, software used for the main Internet services, as well as curious facts about domain names and geography. Details on individual items are available on the Association's website.

By the end of 2022, a total of 1,463,116 domains were listed. On average, 17,193 domains were registered per month, with the highest number of registrations in November (23,581) and the lowest in July (13,199). In contrast to previous years, for the first time on record, there was a drop in the number of DNSSEC-secured domains, which fell by 1.77 percent to a total of 844,615; this was mainly due to a policy change on the part of a major registrar.

The data also shows that 82 percent of the total number of second-level domains already have authoritative DNS servers responding to both IPv4 and IPv6 queries. At the same time, however, IPv6 presence in DNS traffic is significantly lower, at one-third for authoritative servers and less than one-tenth for the public ODVR resolver.

The largest group of domain holders comes from the Czech Republic (over 90 percent), with the largest number from Prague (427,488) and the smallest, traditionally, from the Karlovy Vary region (15,847). The share of foreign domain holders increased compared to last year (it is now more than 9 percent), with the largest group being holders from the United States, Slovakia and Germany. In addition to the United States, the number of holders from China and Italy increased significantly in 2022.
