A Safe Internet Bulletin Board by CZ.NIC is headed to more than 4,000 elementary schools

At the end of October, the Safer Internet Center guaranteed by CZ.NIC, the Czech national domain administrator, will send out a Safe Internet Bulletin Board and other educational materials to all primary schools in the Czech Republic, with the aim to draw pupils’ and students’ attention to the possible pitfalls of the online world in a popularized form and, if necessary, help them solve these non-standard situations.

The package, which will be delivered to schools by the event partner, Zásilkovna, contains a Safe Internet Bulletin Board, which summarizes advice on how to behave safely in cyberspace to prevent the most common problems that arise there. For example, how to defend yourself against verbal abuse and threats, what information and materials you may share on the Internet, how to prevent sexting, how to proceed with online dating and identify fake profiles, how to secure a mobile phone, or how to set a secure password and Wi-Fi. The Bulletin Board also provides contact details where children can get support if necessary.

“Last year alone, we dealt with hundreds of cases of various forms of cyberbullying, child pornography or child abuse. We would like to get these numbers as low as possible, so we will be happy if schools place the Bulletin Board in a place where pupils can properly see its contents,” says Martin Kožíšek, the main coordinator of Safer Internet Centrum project. He also adds: “We thank the partners involved in this distribution for helping us make the Internet a better place for our children.”

Together with the Bulletin Board, the package also includes educational materials of partners of the Safer Internet Center that aim for the prevention of risky behaviors and helping children. These include The Safety Line, Children’s Crisis Center, One World in Schools (OWIS), O2 Smart School, Seznam.cz, Be Safe Online and E-Safety project. The event was supported by the National Cyber and Information Security Agency and the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports.
