International Safer Internet Day coordinated by CZ.NIC will showcase awareness-raising activities

This year’s International Safer Internet Day falls on Tuesday, February 9 and the CZ.NIC Association, which is the coordinator of the Safer Internet Center for the Czech Republic, invites organizations, as well as the general public to take part and present their own activities designed to make the Internet a better and safer place.

The ways to support the Safer Internet Day can be found on the website of the project Safe online.

Besides the domain registry management, the mission of CZ.NIC consists in awareness-raising related to Internet security, including responsible user behavior. In the past, the association’s awareness-raising and educational activities have given rise to the popular educational series How to Use the Internet and Don’t be Afraid of the Internet, followed by thematic courses offered by the educational center CZ.NIC Academy. Another project complementing these activities is the Safer Internet Center.

The Czech Safer Internet Center was established thanks to the support of the European Commission with the purpose to coordinate national activities aimed at improving the online safety of children in the Czech Republic. For over a year, the public has had an opportunity to take advantage of the educational programs of the project Safe online or the services of the hotline STOPonline.cz, where one can report illegal content on the Internet.

"This year we plan to equip all elementary schools in the Czech Republic with a bulletin board containing tips on how to safely use the Internet and Internet technologies. At the same time, pupils will learn how to solve crisis situations or where to turn for help. From audiovisual works, I would like to draw attention to a new series for children, which will be devoted to the topics of media literacy and prevention of risky behavior on the Internet. Together with Palacký University, we plan to conduct research on risky behavior in children’s homes and, based on its results, to make a video course for children from these groups that are often neglected," explains the coordinator of the Safer Internet Center Martin Kožíšek.

The Safer Internet Day and the projects involved will also be trackable on Facebook and Twitter using the hashtags #SaferInternetDay and #SID2021.
