BPAR will continue to entrust the operation of the eIDAS gateway to the CZ.NIC association
The eIDAS international gateway enables the use of login means announced by other EU member states in online government services and at the same time allows Czech citizens to use their electronic IDs to log in to foreign online services.
The administrator of the Czech national domain won an open tender for the operation of the eIDAS international gateway and will therefore operate it for another four years. The eIDAS international gateway enables the use of login means announced by other EU member states in online government services and at the same time allows Czech citizens to use their electronic IDs to log in to foreign online services. The eIDAS gateway also includes a separate component required for logging in with German eIDs. The CZ.NIC Association can thus build on the current two-year cooperation on this project, which arose from a tender announced in 2018.
“We are very pleased that our association will once again be able to participate in the development of eGovernment in the Czech Republic, in this case in the field of cross-border electronic identification. This also contributes to the fulfilment of the long-term strategy of our association,” says Jaromír Talíř, who is responsible for technical development in the field of electronic identification in the CZ.NIC Association, including the eIDAS Regulation. “In the area of eGovernment, we are also working intensively on the development of the mojeID service, which has recently been accredited by the Czech Ministry of Interior and can already be used to access electronic services operated by the government.”
The CZ.NIC Association has long been working on building the infrastructure for cross-border electronic identification as defined by the eIDAS Regulation. In cooperation with the Ministry of the Interior of the Czech Republic (MVČR), CZ.NIC has been participating since 2012 in the STORK 2.0 project (Secure idenTity acrOss boRders linKed) that included an operation pilot gateway connected to mojeID, which was the only existing electronic identification system in the Czech Republic at the time. Based on the INEA (CZ.PEPS) grant, the Association subsequently put into operation first a testing and then a production node eIDAS connected to the National Point for Identification and Authentication (NIA) on one side and to foreign nodes on the other.
Further information related to the eIDAS Regulation is available on the CZ.NIC blog or in the series dedicated to this topic on the Lupa.cz website.
