The functionality period of domains pending expiration reverts to 30 days

This change, which means a return to the original state, will apply to all domains with a Czech national extension, which expire yesterday.

From today, the protection period for domain names with the .CZ extension, the validity of which has not been extended in time, will change to 60 days (for 30 days the domain is fully functional, and for another 30 days it is excluded from the DNS and not available). This change, which means a return to the original state (a protection period of 90 days has been temporarily introduced, see the press release), will apply to all domains with a Czech national extension, which expire yesterday. This measure ends the special mode introduced more than four months ago by the management of the CZ.NIC association – a temporary extension of the functionality of expired domains from 30 to 60 days. The reason for this step was the emergency situation related to COVID-19.

“We hope that our decision, which we announced more than a quarter of a year ago, helped people and companies during the coronavirus crisis. However, given the current situation, we have decided to cancel the 60-day period during which the expired domain is fully functional. Starting August 3, our systems will go back to their original settings, i.e. the period of 30 days,” explains Ondřej Filip, CEO of CZ.NIC, the Czech national domain administrator.
