Six Days Remain to Launch of the New CZ Domain Registration System

The CZ.NIC association, administrator of the CZ national domain, is launching a new system for registration and administration of CZ domains on 1 October 2007.

The CZ.NIC association, administrator of the CZ national domain, is launching a new system for registration and administration of CZ domains on 1 October 2007. Conversion of data from the current registration system and launch of the new system will take place within a three-day suspension of CZ domain registrations scheduled from 28 to 30 September. During the suspension, it will not be possible to register new CZ domains or otherwise manipulate with the domains already registered. At the same time, removal of expired CZ domains from the zone will be suspended, too. The registration system suspension will have no impact on operation of the Czech Internet space.

"The demanding process of the CZ domain migration to the new registration system has been carefully planned and tested several times," commented Martin Peterka, operation manager of the CZ.NIC association. "We are prepared also for potential complications, caused for example by inconsistency of RSD system historical data in the domain database. Minor problems can be dealt with while the new registration system is running; if greater issues should arise, the suspension of CZ domain registrations can be prolonged without any effect on functioning of the Czech internet space."

The current registration system database content will be completely transferred to the new system. No CZ domain holder can thus lose his/her domain. Registrations, registration extensions, transfers and other domain operations will be enabled again as of 1 October when CZ.NIC launches the new registration system to which domain registrars start entering their requests.

"Success of the migration of the CZ domain administration to the new registration system depends also on registrars who need to launch their own registration systems at the time the new registry is put into service so that they can provide services to their customers," added Ondřej Filip, executive director of CZ.NIC. "This is why we have been intensively communicating with the registrars within the preparations, providing them with access to a testing version of the registry with data on registered domains as well as technical support needed to adjust their registration systems. I therefore believe that the new registration system launch will be flawless."

The new registration system for CZ and ENUM domain administration has been developed and is maintained by employees of the CZ.NIC association. Starting with 1 October, the CZ.NIC association takes over the complete administration of the entire registry from an outsourcing partner that ceases to be responsible for the system operation. Migration to the new registration system will mean mainly a higher efficiency and considerably lower operation costs of the registry.

Additional details on the migration of the CZ domain administration to the new registration system will be continuously published on the website of the CZ.NIC association available at http://migrace.nic.cz.
