CZ.NIC Association extends the validity of the domains for which their owners cannot pay in time
The CZ.NIC Association decided to extend the validity of the unpaid .cz domains from 30 to 60 days after their expiration. This is a temporary solution valid until further notice and it is meant to help the owners of domains with .cz in case they cannot extend the validity of their domains in a standard way.
With regard to the current situation of safety measures to prevent the COVID-19 from spreading, CZ.NIC Association decided to extend the validity of the unpaid .cz domains from 30 to 60 days after their expiration. This is a temporary solution valid until further notice and it is meant to help the owners of Czech domains in case they cannot extend the validity of their domains in a standard way. CZ.NIC Association currently manages more than 1.3 million .cz domains.
"Extending the validity of an internet domain should not be the users' main priority at this moment. Hence we decided to adjust our systems so that an unpaid domain and the services running on it will not stop working after 30 days (original setting), but only after 60 days. We believe this change will help people and companies in complicated situations caused by the quarantine measures, because a nonfunctional domain and the services running on it (e.g. web or e-mail) could cause serious problems for them," says Ondřej Filip, the CZ.NIC Association's CEO.
Internet domains are in a protection period for 90 days (they are fully functional for 60 days, and excluded from DNS and thus nonfunctional for another 30 days) after the date until which they were supposed to be extended (paid for). Only after this period is over, the domains are definitively cancelled and offered for new registration.
