The CZ.NIC Association Changes The Wholesale Domain Prices

This is the first change in the wholesale price of the .CZ domain in the last almost seven years.

From January 1 next year, the CZ.NIC Association will change the wholesale price of the .CZ domain to 145 crowns (without VAT) for one calendar year. Today, representatives of the association inform the domain registrars of the change during their regular meeting. This is the first change in the wholesale price of the .CZ domain in the last almost seven years. The wholesale price forms a base for the registrars’ domain prices payable by end users. These include the additional operating costs of registrar systems, therefore they are usually higher.

“Upon internal discussions, the governing bodies of the CZ.NIC Association agreed that they want to maintain the current range and quality of activities of the Association in the coming years, so with regard to the growth of all inputs in the IT area, especially wages, it is necessary to increase the fees for the .CZ domain,” said Ondřej Filip, CEO of CZ.NIC. “I would like to point out that investments in the security of our systems, in particular the DNS system, have achieved tens of millions of crowns in recent years. And I would like to add that we intend to continue improving the security in the future.”

According to the CENTR organization that brings together European administrators of the national domains, the Czech domain .CZ ranks among the cheapest in terms of yearly registration fee. The only countries with lower fees are Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Belgium and Russia. Raising wholesale prices of national domains is not unusual for domain administrators. The domain prices have recently increased in the UK, Denmark, Sweden and Romania.
