CZ.NIC has developed PoE connector for Turris MOX, which has already reached 50 % on Indiegogo
In addition to the eight-port cut-through switch, Turris MOX now offers also a PoE connector for use in places with no power supply.
A unique networking solution, the secure open source modular router Turris MOX has collected on Indiegogo over 50 % of the amount needed to start its production. The new router has been looked into by customers from industry, where it could be a useful part of their solutions. Within the campaign, the base module can be purchased for USD 29.
CZ.NIC has also progressed in further development of the router, and after the recently introduced Turris MOX E module with an eight-port cut-through switch, the PoE Upgrade extension was introduced. This enables power to be supplied over the Ethernet port. The supporters will also appreciate the simplification of the campaign offer. Now they can choose between three configurations: Turris MOX: Classic, Power Wi-Fi and Turris MOX: Start for USD 55, which will be a foundation for user assemblies.
New configurations for easier choice
CZ.NIC has introduced a clearer look of the Indiegogo campaign to make it easier to navigate the offer. Thanks to a new presentation of model examples, supporters can easily select building blocks of the assembly that fully correspond to their needs in specific life situations. The base of the new offer are three configurations that can be expanded by any of the boxed modules:
Turris MOX: Classic – A full-featured secure open-source router with one WAN port, four LAN ports and dual Wi-Fi 802.11ac. It will suit anyone who prefers an unpretentious pre-built solution with uncompromising security.
Turris MOX: Power Wi-Fi – An assembly with a single LAN port and dual Wi-Fi 802.11ac that can serve as a full-featured extension of the existing wireless router or a minimalist router for a modern household with a complete wireless network.
Turris MOX: Start – A boxed CPU module MOX A with a power supply. It can serve as a network server or base for assemblies composed of individual modules that supporters can order separately along with other accessories.
Flexibility with PoE
The new Power over Ethernet (PoE) option allows you to install Turris MOX even in locations with limited access to electric power. It makes it possible to place this network solution almost anywhere, whether it is intended as a wireless AP or used in the network switch mode. The PoE extension opens the door to many practical uses, such as the ability to integrate storage as a security camera server hidden away from an unwelcome visitor.
Modularity as preparation for future technologies
In addition to the unique ability to build a router that suits your needs, Turris MOX gives users the ability to respond to changes. Its modularity enables Ethernet ports to be added at any time via the MOX E module or, for example, to purchase a Turris MOX D module after the SFP optical connection is introduced. The Turris MOX B module shall enable a smooth transition to the expected 802.11ax Wi-Fi standard by replacing the mPCIe card. The network solution thus provides the user with confidence that its security will not be limited in the future by the growing computer network and that new technologies can be easily implemented using new modules.
A secure gateway to the Internet
Regular routers rely on updates installed by users, who, however, ignore the process, as they often do not even know about new releases. Meanwhile, today’s network devices and IoT devices are facing a new threat: invaders who exploit them for crypto-mining without the user’s knowledge. On the other hand, Turris MOX takes care of safety updates for you. It greatly increases the user’s safety, which is becoming an increasingly pressing issue with the gradual expansion of the Internet of Things.
