The Turris Omnia router was awarded in the first annual Tinkerer’s Award competition, in two categories at once. Awardees were voted on by fans, thanks to whom the router of the CZ.NIC Association became the winner in the Best project category and made it to the third place as the Best product. The aim of the award is to bring to light interesting and lesser-known projects in the field of electronics.
The Tinkerer’s Award is a new project dedicated to DIY electrotechnicians and programmers from the Czech and Slovak Republics. The organizers are owners of the websites Chiptron, Tajned and Ráj Bastlířů (Tinkerers’ Paradise) that bring latest news from these fields. The competition wants to point out to interesting and often unknown creators and appreciate their work. The new project has two phases — nomination and voting. Three winners arise from the second phase in each of the nine categories. The competition is also interesting in that the prizes are won by the voting fans, not the winners.
For its projects, CZ.NIC has won several awards in the past, including international ones. These included the Big Brother Award and the IPASCO Award (for the Turris Project), the LINX Awards (for the BIRD project), The Best 2013 for the best eGovernment project (the Datovka and iDatovka apps) or the Golden At Award.
