Wholesale Price for Registration of CZ Domain to Drop by 20 Percent

The CZ.NIC Association, administrator of the CZ national domain, will decrease the annual registration fee paid by CZ domain holders as of 1 January 2007.

The CZ.NIC Association, administrator of the CZ national domain, will decrease the annual registration fee paid by CZ domain holders as of 1 January 2007. The wholesale price for an annual registration of the CZ domain will drop by 20%, i.e. from CZK 500 to 400, excl. VAT. A decision to reduce the price for CZ domain registrations was adopted by the Board of Directors of the CZ.NIC Association in June this year, thus fulfilling the obligation to announce changes in the amount of the annual registration fee six months in advance.

“The registration fee for the CZ domain can be reduced especially thanks to the optimization of the CZ.NIC Association’s expenditure related to domain administration and the rapidly increasing number of registered domains,” said Ondřej Filip, director of the CZ.NIC Association. “We expect that all CZ registrars will respond to this price reduction.”

Association’s Medium-term Strategy
In accordance with its medium-term strategy, the CZ.NIC Association has been working on own implementation of the CZ domain register, the trial operation of which should be launched in cooperation with registrars in May 2007. After its launch in autumn 2007, the technical operation of the CZ domain will be transferred from an outsourced partner to the CZ.NIC Association. This transfer of the technical administration of the CZ domain to the CZ.NIC Association will lead to a further cut on the expenses on the CZ domain administration.

“The price for the CZ domain registration will further decrease, especially thanks to the continuing cost reduction after the launch of the new CZ domain registration system and the transfer of the domain technical administration to the CZ.NIC Association,” added Ondřej Filip.
