CZ.NIC Deploying Their New System for Administration of the CZ Domain
The CZ.NIC association, administrator of the CZ national domain, is deploying a new system for registration and administration of CZ domains.
The CZ.NIC association, administrator of the CZ national domain, is deploying a new system for registration and administration of CZ domains. The launch of the new system, developed by the CZ.NIC association, is scheduled for 1 October 2007. There will also be a significant reduction of the wholesale price for the CZ domain registration, enabled by lower costs bound to the administration of the new system. In addition, the rules for registering CZ domains will be further simplified.
The existing domain registration and administration system has been operated since 2003 by -Systems PragoNet, a.s., an outsourcing partner of CZ.NIC. Starting with 1 October 2007, when the existing outsourcing contract with T-Systems PragoNet ends, full responsibility for the operation of the registration system be taken over by the CZ.NIC association. The decision to transfer the registration system under the competence of the CZ.NIC association is based on both economic and strategic reasons.
"The overall simplification of the registration system will increase the operating efficiency, enabling us to lower the wholesale price for the CZ domain registration by approximately 50 %," commented Ondřej Filip, Director of the CZ.NIC association. "The annual price for the CZ domain registration is based on the costs spent by the association for the registration administration. We will publish the new registration fee, applicable as of 1 October, until this year's June."
Lower Price for Domain Holders
For domain holders the new system will mean mainly a considerably lower price for the annual CZ domain registration. In addition, simplified and more comprehensible domain registration rules will be in place.
Simplified and Faster Registrations
For domain registrars the new registration system will bring, above all, simplified registration conditions and faster system response. Registration of new domains will be carried out in real time; thus, a domain applicant will be notified about the registration result immediately.
The new domain registration and administration system has been developed by the CZ.NIC association and utilized for registration of ENUM domains from September 2006. For other registrars of CZ domains, the migration to the new registration system will mean modification of the data model, migration of domain holder data to the new database and minor changes of custom registration systems.
"Necessary investments to the custom registration systems will be balanced by simplified communication and registration rules as well as lower domain registration price, which will certainly boost the demand for registrations," added Martin Peterka, Director of Operations of the CZ.NIC association. "Experience of ENUM registrars already using the new registration system indicate an acceptable level of investments needed to adjust their systems."
Additional details on the migration of the CZ domain administration to the new system will be continuously published on the website of the CZ.NIC association available at http://www.nic.cz.
