The mojeID service has half a million users

The service has been in operation since the autumn of 2010 and it is currently used by a number of operators – online stores, online communities and public administration bodies.

Prague, January 6, 2016 – the mojeID service mojeID, which enables maintaining user data in one safe place and up-to-date, today registered its 500,000th user. The service has been in operation since the autumn of 2010 and it is currently used by a number of operators – online stores, online communities and public administration bodies. MojeID is operated by the CZ.NIC Association, the administrator of the Czech national domain and it is completely free of charge for users. The last 100,000 accounts were registered since mid-November 2014.

”The registration of the half a millionth mojeID account marked a symbolic end to the exceptional year 2015, which brought more intensive communication with users and the dialogue on the possibilities of further development of the service. The recent research conducted by Markent confirmed, among other things, that mojeID users are satisfied with the service and consider it trustworthy and reliable. We see it not only as the tribute to the work we have done, but mainly as a great obligation to continue to expand the usability of mojeID across the entire spectrum of online services.” stated Ondrej Filip, the CEO of the CZ.NIC Association.

The usefulness of the mojeID depends on support from the most widely used Internet services. This is where mojeID also gained success. The portfolio of services that have recently implemented mojeID includes iDNES.cz, Alza.cz, Annonce.cz, AVÍZO.cz, or Deník.cz.

“We are consistently working on adding more places where users can validate their account. There are already 20 such spots, which are available in all regions of the Czech Republic. The most recently added spots are the libraries in České Budějovice and Ústí nad Labem, regional hospital in Jihlava and the Faculty of education of the University of Hradec Králové. The negotiations with dozens of other potential branches are underway,“ adds Ondřej Písek, Marketing Director of the CZ.NIC Association.

One of the most remarkable recent expansions of the mojeID service is validation of ISIC cards. Thanks to this feature, each time a user logs in using the mojeID account, the service provider offering discounts for students can obtain not only the ISIC card number, but also current information on whether the card is valid. Another important new feature in mojeID is support of the modern standard OpenID Connect, which significantly facilitates the incorporation of this service into mobile applications.

The mojeID service is being developed so as to be ready for the European legislation eIDAS and to be able to become a valid national identity. Being a participator of the extensive project STORK 2.0, last year the trustworthiness of mojeID was recognized to be on the same level as, for example, the electronic Swiss national identity card. Now you can also use mojeID to log in to selected services of the European Commission.
