Validating mojeID accounts at the Moravian Library in Brno

Validation offers positive verification of the identity of individual users of mojeID services, especially by towns and villages or by the operators of Internet businesses.

Prague, 23 October 2013 – The Moravian Library in Brno, one of the largest facilities of its kind in the country, opened the second validation location for mojeID services last week, making it possible for Internet users to sign in to various web services using a universal name and password pair. Validation offers positive verification of the identity of individual users of mojeID services, especially by towns and villages, for example, in the case of town surveys and referenda, or by the operators of Internet businesses to check the age of shoppers. Many Internet users, especially from Moravia, have called for additional verification sites.

‘Users of mojeID services can achieve validation in three ways – a personal visit, a digital certification or an officially verified signature. The most popular and hence most frequently used option is by far a personal visit to the validation centre, during which verification takes only a few minutes based on the submission of a valid ID card. Until last week, the only validation centre was located in Prague. I am delighted that our cooperation with representatives of the Moravian Library has improved the overall availability of validation possibilities’, said Ondřej Filip, executive director of the CZ.NIC Association.

A validated version of a mojeID account can primarily be used today by towns and villages for surveys and referenda on their websites, the operators of electronic businesses using the Eshop-rychle.cz platform, allowing them to verify the age of shoppers, and community websites such as the Hlídačky.cz, which arranges babysitting services.

‘The new mojeID validation site at the Moravian Library is used not only by our registered users, who save a trip to the post office, but also other parties interested in signing up for mojeID services. New and existing users can link their mojeID account to their user account at the Moravian Library’, adds Veronika Žvátorová from the Moravian Library in Brno.

The CZ.NIC Association has operated the mojeID services since 2010, and the number of accounts recently exceeded the quarter-million mark. The main advantages of the service are simple registration and sign-in, verified contact details of users and the security of entered data. Free for users, mojeID is most frequently encountered on Internet stores and on media and community servers.

About the mojeID service

MojeID is a service that allows Czech internet users to use one set of identification data (username and password) to log in to different websites and web services. Using mojeID means you do not always have to create a new account and go through long and complicated registration processes over and over again. The service also allows storing information about account holders in a single safe location where it is always up-to-date. MojeID can be used for all services whose operators directly support the mojeID service or at least OpenID technology. The implementation of mojeID is not difficult and does not carry any significant costs. In cases of e-shops built on open-source solutions such as PrestaShop, Drupal or Joomla, operators can deploy implementation modules that are being developed directly by the mojeID team. The service is provided free of charge to the internet public.

More information about this service, in operation from 26 October 2010, is available at the internet address www.mojeid.cz.
