Prague, 30 October – The CZ.NIC association, administrator of the .CZ domain, announces today the results of the first round of the contest for young talents in the area of ICT. In this round, held from 4 September to 17 October, prospective participants could register projects focused on the development of new open-source software or software innovation in the area of Internet technologies, services and infrastructure. Today an expert board has decided about which projects the contenders may start working on and what amounts of money the individuals or teams may obtain once their projects have been successfully completed. The contest aroused interest among grammar school students and among secondary and college students alike.
A total of 32 projects registered for the “DIP – Develop, Innovate, Program”, of which a five-member board selected 12 to which financial contributions ranging from 10,000 to 55,000 Czech crowns were allocated depending on the degree of difficulty and importance. A total amount of 405,000 Czech crowns may be distributed among all of the selected projects.
Now the selected applicants may start working on their projects. The deadline for project completion is 15 January 2009. The expert board will then meet once again to evaluate the projects submitted by the end of the month. The results of the contest will be announced and the prizes will be awarded on 2 February 2009.
“Despite the fact that this is the first time the “DIP – Develop, Innovate, Program” contest is organized, the number of projects registered has surpassed our expectations. Some of the projects selected by the board are eligible to receive the highest amount of financial contribution possible. One of these, in the opinion of the board the most interesting one, is a project which should ensure availability of IPv4 servers from IPv6-only networks,“ says Ondřej Surý, one of the judges of the contest and Technical Director of the CZ.NIC Association.
