For more than 20 years, the second Tuesday of February has been Safer Internet Day, which this year falls on February 11. This day, and the entire month of February, is dedicated to raising awareness of the importance of safe and responsible online behavior. The initiative brings together experts, organizations and the general public to protect those among us who are most vulnerable and to promote a safe online environment. The Czech Safer Internet Day is traditionally organized by the CZ.NIC Association through its project Safer Internet Centre of the Czech Republic.
Safer Internet Day was first held in 2004 as part of the European SafeBorders project. Since 2005, it has grown into a global initiative that is now commemorated in more than 180 countries. Key topics such as safe use of the Internet, digital footprint, digital identity and cyberbullying emphasize not only the risks but also the opportunities of the digital world.
This is why the European Network of Safer Internet Centres and other organizations around the world prepare awareness-raising campaigns for the day, provide help through their helplines, create educational programs and engage schools and other partners in their project days. Safer Internet Day brings countries, organizations and communities together to create a safer and more responsible digital environment.
