Starting today, CZ.NIC Publications has a new title: the book “Perl for Rookies” by a university teacher and a specialist in computer networks and programming, Pavel Satrapa. The aim of this almost 300-page book is to guide the reader through the interesting world of the Perl programming language. The new publication is not the only title by the same author issued by CZ.NIC. In 2008, the CZ.NIC Association published his book about IPv6 as its first title.
When writing about Perl, Pavel Satrapa focused both on the introduction of basic structures and on “the biggest gems”, which are regular expressions and associative arrays; through these, the author makes his way to more general topics. In fact, Perl has a lot to offer the object-oriented and functional programming, database processing or web applications. The text is accompanied by numerous examples and exercises that test the reader’s abilities.
“A number of very high-quality open source applications was written in Perl. Is there anybody who never used or at least hasn’t heard of Request Tracker, AWstats, or SpamAssassin? What about git-svn, colordiff, autotools? Do you need more evidence of how Perl is important for us and more reasons to dive into reading and learning? I will give you one more. This book will teach you the basics of Perl in the author’s trademark pleasant and fun way,” says Zdeněk Brůna, CZ.NIC technical director, in the preface of the book.
The PDF version of the book is available for free download at https://knihy.nic.cz, and the printed version can be purchased from most booksellers.
