CZ.NIC Transitions to the New Sec. System for the .CZ Domain, Administrators Should Check Their DNS

Today, CZ.NIC Association, the Czech national domain administrator, is launching the process of update of the security key used to secure the .CZ domain with the DNSSEC technology. The new ECDSA key is based on elliptic curve technology and CZ.NIC has been using it to secure its main internet domain nic.cz for almost two years. To date, the same type of key is being used to secure almost half of the domains with the Czech ccTLD, including major commercial and governmental institutions.

“The new algorithm of DNSSEC keys used for the .CZ domain brings a higher level of security while reducing its attractiveness for attackers exploiting DNS for DDoS attacks. Worldwide, new algorithms based on elliptic curves are becoming more and more widespread,” explained Ondřej Filip, CEO of CZ.NIC. “Users can test its functionality starting today by typing www.nic.cz in their browsers’ address bar. If the main webpage of the CZ.NIC Association does not load, they should contact their internet connection provider."
