After a great success on Indiegogo, the Czech router Turris Omnia is coming into the stores

At the beginning of the campaign in November last year, hardly anyone imagined the success that was achieved by the secure Turris Omnia router on the Indiegogo crowdfunding platform. The total of USD 1,223,205 (almost 30 million Czech crowns) was collected for the development and production of the router, which is 12 times more than was anticipated by the CZ.NIC developers; the original goal was 100 thousand dollars. This result makes Turris Omnia the most successful Czech campaign on Indiegogo.
All routers ordered on Indiegogo, that is more than 4400 units, have been manufactured and are on their way to the customers. Following the completion of the Indiegogo campaign, the commercial sale of Turris Omnia was launched today. Starting today, you can buy the router for example in Alza e-shops throughout Europe or through the Discomp distribution company. It is available in two versions - Turris Omnia 2GB for CZK 8,832 and Turris Omnia 1 GB for CZK 7,622.
Every owner of a Turris Omnia router can, if they so wish, turn on the monitoring of network flows, thus helping to create a more secure Internet environment. Already there are several thousand of Turris and Turris Omnia routers worldwide involved in this unique Internet security project.
Secure Gate to the Internet
Software updates in traditional routers have to be installed by the users themselves, who are usually unaware that updates are available and, consequently, do not update their devices. By contrast, Turris Omnia will install security updates completely automatically. This dramatically improves its security for the users, which is very desirable in the context of the gradual growth of the Internet of Things.
More than Just a Router
In addition to a unique security system, Turris Omnia also offers much broader usage opportunities thanks to its high performance and hardware options. The network-attached storage feature enables smooth media sharing and fast backups of precious data. The SIM card slot allows to connect an LTE modem to provide backup Internet connection via mobile networks. Turris Omnia, manufactured in the Czech Republic, is so versatile that it can even be used in combination with a USB DVB-Tuner to cast TV to smartphones and computers.
Ready for the Future
Similar to smartphones and computers, network technologies are also constantly evolving. However, not many people are willing to buy a new router and re-configure the entire network when the time comes to upgrade to a more powerful device. Turris Omnia is a high-performance device – thanks to the user-accessible set of mini-PCIe slots for installation of extension cards, it will not be necessary to replace the router every time a new Wi-Fi standard is introduced. The user will then simply buy a new Wi-Fi card and connect it to the device to upgrade to the latest technologies available on the market.
Pricing and Availability
Turris Omnia with a unique security system is now available on the Alza or on the Discomp.
