Prague, June 16, 2015 - CZ.NIC Association, the administrator of the Czech national domain and creator of the Turris security project, together with Jablotron, a renowned developer and distributor of security systems, have agreed on a joint project involving the production of products and provision of the associated services for so-called “Internet of things”. The basis for the joint activities of the companies will be the Turris router. It is a part of the Turris security project, which has been helping its users protect their networks against cyber-attacks since 2014.
The companies cooperate both on the development of individual elements of the system and exploring of application possibilities in solving real-life situations.
“Already at the start of the Turris project we knew that our special router can also be used as a central unit in a household to manage the network connection of various sensors and measuring devices,” said Ondřej Filip, Executive Director of CZ.NIC about the intents of the Association. “We want to move the Turris project forward, that’s why we established cooperation with Jablotron — together we are opening the next chapter of our project and moving towards the so-called Internet of things."
The Turris project was launched in 2013 to help users protect their home network using a special router. In addition to normal home router functions, it is also able to analyze traffic between the Internet and a home network to identify suspicious data streams. Currently, the project involves over 1,000 Internet users from the Czech Republic and abroad. In the coming months, this user group will expand to include a thousand more people interested in participating in the project, who will enjoy the new version 1.1 of the router.
Alan Fabik, who is responsible for new projects in Jablotron, introduces the reasons of Jablotron for joining the cooperation: “First, I must mention that we created a new team JABLOTRON PROJECTS, which focuses on new projects. These include buyouts and start-ups as well as cooperation in research and development. For example, besides CZ.NIC we work closely with ČVUT and its eClub. With our cooperation on the Turris project, we intend to bring our customers more products and services that make their lives easier. We realize that the industry of Internet of Things is being entered by big global players, but our experience includes several hundred thousand installations of systems for operating doors, lights and other appliances, and also for heating regulation. Our advantage is also that all our systems are certified and installed by professionals. This ensures smooth running and protection against attacks. Thanks to the knowledge and experience of experts from the CZ.NIC association, we will be able to guarantee protection against cyber-attacks as well.”
In the first phase of the joint project, the 100 selected active participants of the Turris project will acquire a set of components and be challenged to design services and wiring diagrams for the Internet of things.
“The first phase of the cooperation will begin this July and will last until the end of September. The best proposals will be rewarded with valuable prizes. We hope that we will get very interesting ideas, as was the case when testing our router,” says Ondřej Filip.
Alan Fabik adds: “Jablotron’s investments in the project will be several millions of crowns, but we are convinced that the benefits outweigh the costs. We also hope that we will discover new talents among the project participants that will expand our development team.”
