About CZ.NIC
CZ.NIC, interest association of legal entities, was founded by leading providers of Internet services in 1998. The association currently has 101 members. The key activities of the association include operation of the domain name registry for the .CZ domain and the 0.2.4.e164.arpa (ENUM) domain, operation of the CZ top-level domain and public education in the area of domain names. The association is now intensively working on development of the DNSSEC technology and mojeID service, extension and improvements of the domain administration system and support of new technologies and projects beneficial to the Internet infrastructure in the Czech Republic. CZ.NIC is a member of the EURid association, managing the European domain – EU, and other similarly oriented organizations (CENTR, ccNSO etc.).
About the DNSSEC Technology
DNSSEC is an extension to the DNS system, increasing the domain name service security. The principle of DNS is the translation of name-based internet addresses such as www.nic.cz or www.dobradomena.cz to numeric addresses that can be understood by computers and used to display specific web pages, send e-mail, make phone calls over the internet and provide other common internet services. DNSSEC enhances the security when using DNS by preventing fake, altered or incomplete domain name data. As the administrator of the .CZ and ENUM domain registry, the CZ.NIC association prepared deployment of this security technology for holders of the above domains and Czech internet users in 2008. More information is available at www.dnssec.cz.
About the mojeID service
MojeID is a service that allows Czech internet users to use one set of identification data (username and password) to log in to different websites and web services. Using mojeID means you do not always have to create a new account and go through long and complicated registration processes over and over again. MojeID can be used for all services whose operators directly support the mojeID service or at least OpenID technology. MojeID is the latest in a series of technologies (DNSSEC, ENUM, etc.) that the CZ.NIC Association, the manager of the Czech national domain, .CZ, has introduced for the needs of the Czech internet community. More information about this service, in operation from 26 October 2010, is available at the internet address www.mojeid.cz.
About the ENUM System
The ENUM system takes advantage of both the classic and IP telephony, enabling users of fixed as well as mobile phone numbers to register special ENUM domains for these numbers, containing directions needed to reach these numbers over the Internet. Numbers with matching ENUM domains can then be called over the Internet for free, no matter in which provider's network the given number is located (including foreign networks). In the Czech Republic, the task to implement and maintain the ENUM system has been assigned by the Ministry of Informatics to the CZ.NIC association. More information on the ENUM system is available at http://enum.nic.cz.
About CZ.NIC Laboratories
