How to register .cz domain

Choose a domain name you want to register first. Domain names may only contain letters (a-z), numbers (0-9) and a hyphen (-). The hyphen can not be at the beginning or end of the name. Maximum length of a domain name is 63 characters. When you have your domain name ready, check that it is not used using the WHOIS - registry search.

When your domain name is free, continue; when it is not, but you think you have a legal right to it, go to Domain disputes.

Note:
The registration process may differ in individual registrars' systems and the order of individual steps may be slightly different. Always consult the Help files for the system you are using.

1. Selection of registrar

The domain name registration system does not allow the CZ.NIC association to register domains, a registrar must be chosen. Registrars are companies with access to the registry, which administer domain names for users. Individual registrars differ in services they offer and in prices for domain name registration. Choose your registrar from the Registrars list, from where you may proceed into their registry systems.

2. Registering contact information

After registering a domain, contact information must be specified for the person which will be listed in the registry as domain holder, administrative contact and technical contact. These may be different persons or one person, the roles differ as follows:

  • the domain holder may change the domain name
  • the administrative contact may change all domain name information, with the exception of the domain holder
  • the technical contact may change the domain's technical settings

The same person may be used for all three roles, or up to 10 persons may be assigned individual roles (with the exception of the domain holder, which can only be 1). For each person, specify name, organisation (if the holder is a legal entity), address, Email and Other contact information. Please make sure the Email address you specify is current and working, since this is where important information about domain names registered will be sent, such as expiration notifications, exclusion of domain from zone, technical test results, etc. Make sure you update the contact details when they change to prevent problems.

3. Registration of name server set

A domain's technical details are stored in its nameserver set, which contains nameservers (and/or their IP addresses) to which the domain name will be delegated and the domain's technical contact. When registering, provide names of individual nameservers, their IP addresses (GLUE) and one or more persons specified as technical contact.

4. Domain registration

The first and the last step is registration of the domain itself. Assign persons specified in 2. above as domain holder and/or administrative contact(s) for each domain and complete the registration.

Domain registration may be checked using the WHOIS - registry search service.

ENUM domains

Apart from .cz domains, ENUM domains may also be registered with CZ.NIC. These are domains made of telephone numbers, used by their owners to publish a way to call them over the Internet. All Internet users capable of using the ENUM system may call such owners for free. See ENUM website for more information about ENUM.
