.CZ Domain is World Leader in DNSSEC Implementation
Prague, 9 January 2012 – At the turn of 2011 and 2012, five Czech .CZ domain registrars decided to sign the domains administered on their name servers using DNSSEC technology. This means that of the more than 883,000 .CZ domains, 311,141 are now protected with DNSSEC, i.e., over 35 %. According to statistics from CZ.NIC, this represents an increase of 200,000 domains compared to the previous year.
“The 35 % figure for domains protected using DNSSEC means that the Czech national domain has reclaimed its top position among top-level domains that have implemented and use this technology. In second place is the Swedish national domain .SE, which was the first in the world to introduce DNSSEC. I am very happy that more and more Czech registrars are staring to use this security measure, and I hope others will join them in the future as well,” said Ondřej Filip, Executive Director of the CZ.NIC Association.
The registrars who have recently signed the domains they manage are INTERNET CZ, IGNUM, ONE.CZ, GENERAL REGISTRY and AERO TRIP PRO. They join ACTIVE 24, Web4U, and ONESolution, which have been automatically offering DNSSEC for a longer time.
About DNSSEC
DNSSEC is an extension to the DNS system, increasing the domain name service security. The principle of DNS is the translation of name-based internet addresses such as www.nic.cz or www.dobradomena.cz to numeric addresses that can be understood by computers and used to display specific web pages, send e-mail, make phone calls over the internet and provide other common internet services. DNSSEC enhances the security when using DNS by preventing fake, altered or incomplete domain name data. As the administrator of the .CZ and ENUM domain registry, the CZ.NIC association prepared deployment of this security technology for holders of the above domains and Czech internet users in 2008.
