CZ.NIC aims to protect domain holders

Prague, 3 October 2011 – CZ.NIC, the administrator of the national domain, issued new versions of its Registration Rules, Business Terms and Conditions for Registrars and Pricelist on 1 October 2011. The most significant change for domain holders is the extension of the protective period prior to the cancellation of the domain from the current 45 days to 60 days. The primary goal of these updates is to increase the protection of rights and the security of private data for domain holders and, simultaneously, to bolster database security against automated data acquisition.

The first important change is the extension of the protective period for domains facing the threat of expiration. Up until now domains were cancelled 45 days after the date until which they had been paid; domains will now be cancelled after nearly two months. Other changes in the documents involve the rules for registrar activities. The new rules contain more precise restrictions aimed at increasing the privacy of domain holders. The final change concerns fees for registrar queries to the .CZ domain register that exceed the established limit.

"All of these changes are intended to accommodate .CZ domain holders and have the goal of increasing the protection of their rights and the security of their private data. At the same time, we are also strengthening database security against automated access. The protective period has been extended to give domain holders who are genuinely interested in keeping their domains more time," said Martin Peterka, CZ.NIC Operations Manager.
