A Great Day for the Security of Czech Internet
Prague, 26 January 2010 - Almost 15,000 Czech domains (14,236) started to be secured by DNSSEC today which protects information stored in the Domain Name System (DNS) from forging and misuse. This is thanks to a decision by WEB4U, one of the largest Czech registrars, to implement DNSSEC in all domains operated in their DNS which have been registered through WEB4U. This move multiplied the number of .CZ domains which have been secured by DNSSEC. The statistics of the CZ.NIC Association, which launched DNSSEC in October 2008, registered 1414 DNSSEC-protected domains by the end of 2009. The Czech Republic is one of the most active countries in terms of introducing the DNSSEC technology.
“We greatly appreciate WEB4U’s decision because it will significantly contribute to the security of not only the Czech Internet. By doing so, we also point the way to other countries which are currently launching the technology,” said Ondřej Filip, CZ.NIC CEO. “DNSSEC is important in particular for those who seek the highest possible security of their information on the Internet. Among these are banks or e-shops on whose websites the visitors often enter sensitive personal data such as user names and passwords, credit card numbers etc.,“ says Ondřej Filip.
With 21 thousand registered .CZ domains, WEB4U ranks among the leading Czech registrars. These domains include e.g. Vivantis e-shop chain or the website of ETA, the Czech manufacturer of household electrical appliances.
“All domains registered by us and operated in our DNS have been provided with DNSSEC protection today, absolutely free of charge. We are the only registrar in the Czech Republic who automatically provides DNSSEC protection to every .CZ domain registered with us. We believe that security should be an intrinsic part of all Internet services, not only an extra-charged option,“ concluded Martin Kukačka, owner of WEB4U.
