CZ.NIC demonstrates the advantages of having your own internet domain

Prague, 7 September 2009 – Internet users who normally use domain names often have no idea of the opportunities afforded by registering their own domains and how to acquire them. The number of domains registered by individuals and organizations in the Czech Republic is therefore significantly lower than in comparable countries in Western Europe. The CZ.NIC Association, administrator of the .cz domain, therefore launches an awareness campaign today, the main objective of which is to highlight the advantages of having your own domain, showing how easy it is to register an internet domain and explain how to take care of and protect it. The campaign, which is aimed at the broader internet public, uses the special microsite, www.dobradomena.cz, for this purpose.
A domain includes the web address, email address and all other addresses for internet services. Thus it creates the internet identity for the person or organization. The advantage of having your own domain is that the form of this address is decided only by the domain owner, who can adapt it to their own name or the company name in the way they want others to perceive it.
“An internet domain can therefore simplify the way information or products are found. Internet users today use domain names quite intuitively – they write www dot what they are looking for dot cz in their browsers automatically. That is why a good domain is also very important and advantageous for those who are offering the information, services or products,” explains Pavel Tůma, marketing director of the CZ.NIC Association.
One of the unique advantages of the .CZ domain compared with the majority of other domains is the security of the DNSSEC system. This protects .CZ domains from abuse that could lead for example to theft of sensitive personal user data, interception of internet communication or falsification or forgery of information presented on a specific domain, using digital keys.
“A Good domain is as short, telling and as memorable as possible – the name of a person, company, product or a description of what can be found in the domain (e.g. alesmokry.cz or selatka.cz),” adds Ondřej Filip, Executive Director of CZ.NIC association.
The Good Domain awareness campaign will take place mainly online. Its core consists of the specially created microsite www.dobradomena.cz, which explains to visitors in an original and fun way what the advantages are of owning a .cz domain, how to register and secure the domains, how to take care of them, etc. The microsite will be supplemented with other communication channels in the form of social networks (Facebook, Twitter) and a mix of regular advertisements.
