What is CZ.NIC, z.s.p.o.?
CZ.NIC, z. s. p. o., is an interest association of legal entities, founded in 1998 by fifteen legal entities – leading providers of internet services. The key activities of the association include operation of the domain name registry for the .CZ domain and the ENUM domain, operation of the CZ top-level domain and public education in the area of domain names. The association is registered in a registry of legal entities maintained by the Department of Civil Administration of the Municipal Council of Prague (Odbor občanskosprávních agend Magistrátu hl. m. Prahy), reg. no.: ZS 30/3/98. The association has been assigned the ID 67985726 and tax ID CZ67985726.
Where can I verify data of the association?
Important data about the association are available to you at www.nic.cz – here you can also find a copy of the document proving registration of CZ.NIC, z. s. p. o., in the registry of interest associations of the Municipal Council of Prague and the respective financial authority.
Who and how can become a member of the association?
Any entity meeting conditions defined in the statutes of the association can apply for membership. See more detailed information here.
Can a domain name be pledged?
A domain name can be considered “a type of an asset”, or a subjective right of the holder to the domain name following from a contract on the registration of a domain name. As such, a domain name or a right hereto can be put into pledge. A pledge will follow from the conclusion of a written contract, unless it states otherwise. CZ.NIC does not record the existence of a pledge in the domain name register. The amendment of reciprocal rights and obligations is entirely the responsibility of the contractual parties. CZ.NIC wishes to point out that it does not possess any authority to resolve disputes related to pledge contracts that may emerge between the contractual parties.
How can I register a domain?
Domains are registered through registrars; direct registration by CZ.NIC is not possible. More information is provided here
How can I change my Sponsoring Registrar?
Contact the new registrar you have selected. This registrar will then take care of all details. The new registrar needs to be provided with your transfer password. When you change your registrar, this does not affect the time for which your domain name is pre-paid.
Can I register other domains with CZ.NIC than .CZ?
The CZ.NIC association maintains the registry of .CZ domain names; domain names with different endings (.COM, .SK etc.) cannot be registered here. However, most of the registrars offering the .CZ domain registration can perform registration of different endings, too. Please contact your registrar directly.
What happens if a Sponsoring Registrar no longer provides services?
All domain names of the given registrar remain in the central registry. Domain name holders will be informed about termination of the registrar's activities and asked to pick up another registrar.
Subjects no longer exist in the current system – what happened with the data set for those subjects?
All data registered for subjects (names, e-mail and mail addresses etc.) have been transferred to contacts. No data has been deleted; all data has been transferred to the new DSDng system.
I want to transfer a domain (contact / name server set) to another registrar and I am asked to provide a transfer password. What is it and where can I get that password?
The transfer password (also referred to as "authinfo") is a password assigned to every domain, contact and name server set. These passwords have been generated for data entered prior to the DSDng launch (by 27 September 2007). Holders can set them manually for newer objects. Every password is known to the given designated registrar and holder. The passwords are used to confirm transfers of domains (contacts, name server sets) from one registrar to another. If you decide to transfer a domain (contact, name server set) to another registrar, you need to provide this registrar with the transfer password so that the transfer could be performed. Unless the new registrar knows the password, this registrar is not authorized to perform the transfer.
The password can be obtained by querying your existing designated registrar that is obliged to provide you with the password or by using a form directly at CZ.NIC. The transfer password can also be requested by your new registrar – if this is the case, you will receive your password to your e-mail address set in the central registry.
What is a name server set?
Unlike in the old registry where name servers (DNS servers carrying records on specific domains) were assigned directly to domain names, so-called name server sets have been introduced in the new DSDng system. The name server set is a structure where both the actual name servers and the respective contacts of the technical administrators of these name servers are entered. Such set is then assigned to a domain name as a whole. The same name server set can be assigned to multiple domains. This makes it possible to simplify the name server administration in situations when a same name server set is used for multiple domains, allowing to unambiguously and logically assign specific technical administrators to specific name servers.
