Prague, July 1, 2014 – the CZ.NIC Association, administrator of the Czech national domain, expanded its book series with a new title, eighth in total. This book written in Slovak language by Martin Husovec, a lawyer, is called “Responsibility on the Internet according to the Czech and Slovak Laws”. The book has the ambition to be a detailed manual on practical issues, such as: who and when is responsible for situations where users violate someone’s rights on the Internet, when the service operator must yield data about their users or in which state they may be sued and under what law. The electronic version of the book is, like all previously released titles, available for download at https://knihy.nic.cz. On this website, visitors can also order a printed version for CZK 287; if you order using IPv6 , you’ll receive a CZK 50 discount.

“The book is intended for all who are actively using the Internet. It should help answer the basic question of the rights and obligations of the Internet user, and vice versa what responsibilities the service provider has towards the public. It does not matter whether the interested person operates an internet forum, a Facebook page or begins with their own start-up. The question of accountability is crucial in understanding how to behave in order to avoid legal problems. This book was created as a response to the needs of Czech and Slovak practices, where many similar issues have yet to enter public knowledge,” says the book’s author Martin Husovec.

“This book provides a very comprehensive, yet still understandable overview of the responsibilities of various entities on the Internet, whether it comes to search engines, hosting providers or content providers, from very up-to-date perspectives of both Czech and Slovak laws. Czech and Slovak Republics continue to be very close and many users may be faced with the same problems in both countries. The comparison of how the same problems were dealt with by lawmakers of both countries is also of interest,” writes Zuzana Průchová, the CZ.NIC lawyer, in the foreword.

CZ.NIC Publications is one of the many educational projects of the Czech national domain administrator. The aim of this project is to publish both expert and popular publications associated with the Internet and its technologies. The first publication issued in 2008 was the second edition of the popular book by Pavel Satrapa “IPv6” (you can now find its third edition at the CZ.NIC Publications website). This was followed by the books “Pro Git” by Scott Chacon, “Dive into Python 3” by Mark Pilgrim, “The Wonderful World of Electronic Signatures” by Jiří Peterka, “Producing Open Source Software” by Karel Fogel, “The Internet as an Object of Law” by Ján Matejka and “Own Your Space” by authors Linda McCarthy and Denise Weldon-Siviy. In addition to the printed version, electronic version of these books is also available. For more information, see https://knihy.nic.cz.
